Message of the Week

The first photographer interview, 4 months in the making, is finally posted. Next: a large backlog of chess games and finally some book reviews.

The Big Move

I’ve been considering consolidating my online presence for some time, and now I’ve finally done it. I exist a few too many different places, and while that seems to work for some people, the diffusion of my online personality bothered me.  I’ve finally installed wordpress here on my home server, and here I’m going to pull together my chess improvement blog (formerly at blogspot) with my static website (which had fallen into some disrepair), and begin to write a bit about photography and the books that I’m reading, etc.  All of the old chess posts have been imported here.

I’m also considering this a replacement for my livejournal, which I didn’t post to much and never really felt at home with.  Livejournal is much more geared towards personal items than the things I want to write about, and emphasized separate internet personas (as separate from real life personas) in a way that made me somewhat uncomfortable.  I’ll hang onto the account to read and comment, but I don’t expect to post much there anymore and don’t plan to import my old LJ posts here. This means that the older posts are entirely chess related, and probably give an inaccurate impression of the mix of chess vs non-chess topics I’ll be posting going forward.

The one thing I did occasionally use LJ for was to post short little links or ideas, though I often felt like they were too minor or meaningless for that forum.  I’m going to experiment with using twitter to replace that role for me.  My twitter account is ’stevewollkind’  and while I won’t use it a ton, I will tweet (or twit?) from time to time.

One final note: the interaction between wordpress import and RSS may or may not be handled well by all newsreaders, so if you’re intending to read this on a news feed, you may find that older posts are out of order.  I recommend coming to the blog site itself to read them.
